Curious about the nautical terms? There are lots of sites that feature the terms. I found this site had the most comprehensive list with definitions.
CREATIVE LICENSE: Anyone's who's a stickler for details will see that my lighthouse collage is just that, a collage of Maine scenes.
My experience along the water's edge after the storm was at Portland Head Light (pictured here). The lighthouse is modeled after West Quoddy Light (incorrectly identified as East Quoddy Light in my letter). East Quoddy Light is on Campobello Island in New Brunswick, West Quoddy Light is in Lubec, Maine, south of Campobello Island. The sailboat with the red sails was inspired by the windjammer, Angelique out of Camden.
I have only two photos from that blustery day, including one with my finger blocking half of the image (my apologies!). When I realized my photos were lacking, we made a return trip to Portland Head Light on a much calmer day. On the way we stopped for breakfast at Becky's diner on Portland's waterfront.
