Riddle Me Mail - the March edition

How It's Made
When we had company last weekend, the conversation turned to digital art, and my friend asked me about my collage work. She wondered what computer program I used to create it.

When I said it's not digital art, she was surprised, so I pulled out the original panels. I watched as she ran her finger across the cut-out shapes that make up the collage. I showed her how I paint sheet music in different colors, then cut it up.

She thought others might be surprised to learn that the collage work is done by hand . . . bits and bits of paper, glued to a sheet. And she thought you might like to see the process.

So here is this month's collage in progress. I draw a rough sketch of what I want to create and start cutting shapes. It's a process that comes together through trial and error. If you look closely, you'll see I had started with a much smaller bird, added a flower bud to the lower leaf, and moved the dandelions to the right.

Until I'm certain things are right where they should be, I I use a repositionable glue stick to hold them in place.

The Sound of Peepers
When I wrote my letter, I didn't realize that peepers are found only east of the Mississippi. If you've never heard peepers, I found a sound clip on the Farmers' Almanac site. Scroll down and there's a link and you can hear them.
